Abstract

This study explores the often-overlooked role of mathematics in entrepreneurial decision-making and challenges the common perception that business success is primarily driven by intuition and experience. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study examines a wide range of primary and secondary sources in entrepreneurship, financial management, and decision theory to better understand the relationship between intuitive judgment and quantitative reasoning in business practices. The findings reveal that mathematical reasoning is implicitly embedded in many entrepreneurial activities, including pricing strategies, cost management, investment planning, and risk evaluation. Although entrepreneurs may not always use formal mathematical models, their decisions frequently reflect underlying quantitative logic shaped by practical experience and situational awareness. However, the study also highlights that the absence of explicit mathematical understanding can lead to inefficiencies, cognitive biases, and suboptimal decision outcomes, particularly in complex and competitive business environments. Without a structured analytical framework, entrepreneurs may struggle to evaluate alternatives accurately and manage financial uncertainty effectively. Therefore, this study argues that recognizing and strengthening the role of mathematics in entrepreneurship is essential. Integrating mathematical thinking with intuitive insights can significantly improve the quality, consistency, and sustainability of business decision-making processes.
